Carbon Laser Peel: Our NEWEST treatment for Pore Reduction!

Asian carbon photo

The Carbon Laser Peel is also known as ‘Carbon Laser Skin Rejuvenation’ or ‘China Doll Peel’, and gives you glowing skin after just one treatment. This treatment is very popular in Asia, and has been made famous by Asian Celebrities.

A relatively new laser resurfacing procedure, carbon laser peel makes use of laser beams to treat various skin imperfections.

The treatment will commence with a laser skin rejuvenation, followed by covering the face with a thin carbon solution of micro to nano size which; enables deep absorption into the pore. The laser works due to its dark shade. Carbon particles will then be vaporised by the laser, removing blackheads, whiteheads and surfacing dead skin cells; revealing fresher and cleaner skin.

Not only are the benefits of the carbon peel seen straight away but continuously over the course of treatments. Due to the thermal energy absorbed into the skin, collagen synthesis begins immediately after your first treatment.

The mechanism of refining the pores is due to the production of collagen within the dermis where the pore is situated. As we age our skin’s collagen production reduces, the walls of the pore lose their support and the surface opening begin to enlarge.

The carbon peel combined with the Q-switched laser is like no other technology with amazing benefits and zero downtime. The popularity of this treatment began in Asian where patients loved the skin resurfacing and blackhead removal who then soon noticed after a minimisation in the pore throughout the T zone, improvement in acne and skin blemishes hence why this treatment was called “The China Doll Peel” as the skin resembled a porcelain doll.

The truth about enlarged pores and how to treat them

article-2028587-0D85817700000578-670_468x455

Large pores are a common cosmetic concern amongst all clients. There are many misleading skin care companies marketing how to diminish pores completely when in fact there is no possible way of getting rid of our pores.

Pores, also known as hair follicles, serve a fundamental purpose to our skin such as producing healthy oil to keep our skin hydrated and protected from environmental pollutants. Pores are also responsible for releasing sweat on our skin to maintain body temperature.

The truth in attempting to minimise or reduce the overall appearance of your pores can be achieved with some successful skin treatments and products.

As many of us are aware we have skin types: normal, dry, oily and sensitive.  Any skin type can have large pores, but most commonly the oily skin type, due to the higher secretion of oil produced.

Typical active ingredients used for reducing pore size include a class of Beta-Hydroxy Acids and Alpha Hydroxy acids. These types of acids come from fruit derivatives, which assist in exfoliating the inside of the pore as well as the external of the skin, removing dead skin cells that build up with oil creating plugs or “blackheads”.

Retinol or Tretinoin (Vitamin A) is another fundamental active ingredient which is great for the overall health and appearance of the skin. Vitamin A plays a key role in reducing the build-up of plugs within the pore itself therefore reducing blackheads.

Many of our clients feel their pores look more obvious as they get older, and this is in fact true.  As we age, our skin reduces in collagen and elastin, our main support structure which keeps our skin looking youthful and plump. Pores appear larger due to the loss of collagen around the walls of the pores which look wider on the surface.

Treatments that reduce pore size successfully have been far and few between up until now. Back in the day, most laser treatments that improved pores were very painful, expensive and required down time.

At Skinnovation Laser Clinic we use the Medite C6 Nd Yag Q Switched laser. This type of laser penetrates the skin in nanoseconds delivering a high discharge of energy, low level of heat with minimal discomfort. The energy absorbed into the skin gently vibrates collagen fibres creating new collagen to grow, plumping the skin and refining the pore size. Every Medlite treatment gradually works on many cosmetic concerns of the skin including fine lines, wrinkles, uneven skin tone and pigmentation.

At Skinnovation Laser Clinic in Maroubra, this particular treatment is called Laser Skin Rejuvenation.  Book your FREE skin consultation with us today. Call (02) 8347 0224 or book online now!

What all men need to know about laser hair removal

menshairremoval

Most men have been shaving their beards since adolescence and some have gotten used to also clipping/shaving or waxing their body hairs.. However, while some can see it as a sign of masculinity, for others it can be a real inconvenience.  Because of that, lots of men are starting to get over their preconception that laser hair removal is only meant for women, and are actually really starting to seek for this treatment as a solution for their body hair issues.

Here’s just a few reasons why you should quit the razor/waxing and join us in the laser hair removal club:

  • Laser prevents bumps and ingrown hairs
  • It removes up to 99% of the hair
  • It leaves the skin silky smooth
  • When done on the back of the neck, it will make your  haircut last longer, leaving a neat neckline.
  • All body areas can be treated
  • Low maintenance – you will only need treatment once a month, for around 8-10 sessions.
  • Virtually pain free.

What can men do to prepare?

              Two weeks before treatment

  • Do not wax, pluck or tweeze the area. This will ensure the hair is in the follicle and the laser can treat it;
  • Do not have cosmetic injections or skin treatments – the laser can’t be used on broken skin;
  • Avoid direct sun exposure on the areas treated, fake tans and solariums, since these increase the risk of pigmentation

              24 hours before treatment

  •  Shave the area to ensure the laser is absorbed by the hair follicle below the skin’s surface.

Should patients look for a laser clinic that especialises in male treatments?
No, the most important thing is to choose a clinic that uses the latest laser technology,  and that has experienced trained laser therapists to be able to perform your treatment safely. At Skinnovation Laser Clinic, we use Candela GentleLASE machine, which is the world’s most efficient hair reduction system.

Microdermabrasion vs. Laser Skin Facial Rejuvenation

shutterstock_71802418

When it comes to skin treatments, there are so many different options in the market these days that sometimes it gets a bit confusing in regards to what each treatment does and who they are meant for.

The main sought after skin treatments at the moment are Microdermabrasion and Laser Skin Rejuvenation. But what is the difference between them and which one is the best for me?

These two treatments are pretty much opposite in what they do and how they do it but they complement each other perfectly, so when it comes to choosing which one is best for you, the answer is probably both of them. But let’s understand it a little bit better.

MICRODERMABRASION is a non invasive deep exfoliation of the skin, treating only the outermost layer of the skin. It tackles flaws at the surface level, removing dead cells and reducing superficial pigmentation, as well as blemishes. Microdermabrasion is done by using a diamond-tip wand that gently buffs the top layer of the skin. It can be done on all skin types, but it is not the type of treatment that will be treating skin concerns that are sitting in deeper layers of the skin, but it is a great treatment to be done in conjunction with more invasive treatments such as laser rejuvenation, chemical peels etc. It is also great pre-party pick me up, as it will leave the skin clean and silky smooth straight after, for that perfect makeup application. A microdermabrasion session will take approximately 20-30 minutes and sessions are usually recommended monthly.

LASER SKIN REJUVENATION is still considered non invasive as there is no downtime associated, but when compared to Microdermabrasion, it does a little bit extra. The laser works on a cellular level (deeper layers of the skin) to improve skin tone and texture, firm the skin, reduce pore size and appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, whilst also removing pigmentation that might be sitting a bit deeper in the skin as well as acne and acne scarring. The laser will also stimulate collagen and elastin production in order to promote healthy skin cells. It is not a painful treatment. Sessions will take approximately 15-20 minutes and are usually recommended monthly.

In a nutshell, Laser Skin Rejuvenation is a more complete treatment when it comes to actively treating the skin and seeing a real improvement. For those who have never tried any skin treatments before and are still a bit wary, Microdermabrasion is a great one to deep your toes in the water before moving onto something more intense. And for those intending to get optimum skin improvement, try both together and you will be AMAZED!

At Skinnovation Laser Clinic in Maroubra we offer both Microdermabrasion and Laser Skin Rejuvenation.  Book your FREE skin consultation with us today. Call (02) 8347 0224 or book online now!

10 Reasons to ditch the razor and try laser hair removal

4540620_orig

Laser hair removal is one of the most popular beauty treatments available for both men and women who are seeking to obtain smooth hair free skin with long lasting results.

Are you still a bit unsure if you should switch to permanent laser hair reduction? Here’s 10 reasons why you definitely should:

  1. Long- lasting results:  laser hair removal will permanently reduce the amount of hair from 85 to 99% in just around 8 to 10 sessions in total, as opposed to other hair removal methods such as shaving, plucking and waxing, where constant maintenance is required.
  2. It will suit almost every one: laser is suitable to both man and women of most ages, with any skin types, that have dark hair. Laser will not be effective on blond, grey, white or red hairs. If in doubt, a test patch is always a good way to see if you hair is suitable or not for laser hair removal.
  3. Cost effective: laser hair removal these days is pretty cost effective and the pricing is not that much different to waxing for example. The big difference it makes in your pocket is the amount of sessions it takes for you to say bye for good to all your unwanted hairs. Laser hair removal is a one off upfront investment, which will give you permanent results, whereas other methods of hair removal will be ongoing for the rest of your life.
  4. Saves time: say goodbye to wasting that extra precious time in the shower shaving off all your unwanted hairs. Did you know the average man will shave around 20,000 times in a lifetime and the average woman around 8,000 times? How much time will that take? With laser hair removal you will only need to dedicate a few minutes of your time once a month for about 10 times and then voila! Done! Time is money so that is reason enough to invest in laser hair removal.
  5. No more ingrown hairs: if you suffer from ingrown hairs, then laser is the best solution for you as it cuts off the blood flow to hair follicle, resulting in the hairs fall out from the root and eliminating the possibility of ingrown hairs, which is commonly caused by waxing and shaving.
  6. Virtually pain free: when compared to hair removal techniques which pulls the hair from the root, laser hair removal is way less painful, specially with the new advances in technology and the use of cooling devices which make the sessions more comfortable with no lingering pain afterwards.
  7. Mess free: unlike other methods such as shaving, waxing and IPL, laser hair removal is mess free, with no need for shaving cream, gels and sticky wax.
  8. Low maintenance: after you’re done with your course of treatments (8-10 sessions) you will then go into the “maintenance phase”, only requiring touch up sessions either once or twice a year, depending on your personal needs.
  9. Safe: if done correctly by a trained professional, laser is proven to be a safe method of hair removal. The laser beam will target and damage only the hair, leaving the surrounding tissues unaffected.
  10. Self-confidence boost: with laser hair removal you will never have to worry about embarrassing body or facial hair again. You will look and feel amazing!

Considering Laser Tattoo Removal? Here is all you need to know.

shutterstock_256732753

When it comes to permanently removing a tattoo in a safe way with minimum risk associated, laser tattoo removal is still the only option. In a nutshell, the only non-invasive method of removing tattoo pigments is by using Q-switched lasers.

At Skinnovation Laser Clinic in Maroubra we use a medical grade laser; MedLite C6 Q- Switched laser, which is considered the Gold Standard of laser tattoo removal machines in the market.

But how does it work?

The laser works by targeting the ink or pigment in the tattoo and shattering the ink particles into micro particles, that will be naturally eliminated by the body’s immune system. All of this process will happen without causing any damage to the surrounding tissues and most colours can be removed completely, without leaving any residual scarring.

How many treatments will I need?

The recommended number of treatments will vary depending on area of the body and also on the body’s ability to detoxify the ink particles. It can take from 6 to 15 sessions.
Black and dark ink will fade faster, while coloured tattoos will take a bit longer. Greens, yellows and florescent colours are the hardest colours to be removed.

How long does each session take?

Great news, It is fairly quick! Depending on the size of the tattoo, it can take from 5-10 minutes on a small tattoo up to 30 minutes on a very large tattoo with multiple different colours.

Does it hurt?

It can be quite uncomfortable to some people, but it will all depend on each individual’s pain threshold. At Skinnovation Laser Clinic in Maroubra we use we use the Zimmer Cooling System, which reduces the discomfort during the session by up to 80%. Additional skin pain management methods can be used, such as numbing cream application  1 hour prior to treatment, also available at our clinic.

Will it remove my tattoo completely? Will it leave any scarring?

In the majority of cases the tattoo will be removed completely without leaving any marks or any scarring. Very rarely, scarring can occur, but If post-care instructions are properly followed, the treatment should leave no scarring.

What can I expect immediately after treatment?

A white frost-like reaction is common after the treatment, which will fade in about 30 mins after the session. Redness and mild swelling are also common reactions. They normally subside after a few hours.

I want to start my laser tattoo removal treatment. Where do I go from now?
